The first to lives in the area were the Piceni: the Piceni were an Italic people historically allocated in the first millennium, The Piceno territory then included all of today's brands and the northernmost part of the 'Abruzzo (which roughly corresponds to the current Province of Teramo and part of that of Pescara).
On the Adriatic coast Cupra was an important port and a base in the navigation of the Greeks towards Numana and Padania but also a naval base for the Etruscans on the route leading to Taranto, Greece, Sicily.

Following the ancient Romans it was also fascinating from this strategic area. Cupra, in fact, fell to Rome in 268. AC. to arrive, a few decades later, the integration policy in the Roman state.
